T is for Tomatoes

I thought I would never ever ever ever ever ever ever ever say this, but . . .

I like tomatoes.

I know, I KNOW! No one has hijacked my blog, there is no gun to my head. This is real life. I enjoy them. They are good.

I have had like 3-4 sandwiches with just cheese and tomato. What? I know. It's weird. But I love it. I have had bruschetta with mounds of tomatoes, and wanted more. I got pizza with spinach, ricotta cheese, and, yes, tomatoes, which ended up being one of my favorite meals.

Also, I have freckles now. I am having a serious identity crisis.

F is for Florence

It's official: I am in LOVE with Florence. The day we stepped off of the train, got to our hotel, and walked to the river, I almost cried. It was one of the most beautiful sights I have ever witnessed. It was one of those moments where I needed someone to pinch (or really, slap) me to convince me I was there. That night we walked around, enjoyed the sights and architecture, and then we ended up in this little piazza where a small band was playing. I was wearing a long big skirt, and was having fun dancing along. They started to play a paso doble/Spanish sounding song, and I was waving my skirt around like a matador. Out of nowhere, this middle-aged guy comes running over, fingers to his head like a bull. He started to dance with me, and it was hilarious! He was from Australia, and was showing me where his daughters were and how embarrassed they were that he was causing a scene. Because really, no one else was dancing, and everyone was watching us. Good thing I HATE attention ;)

I'm loving the art we have been able to see, and I have also been loving the food. Our second night in Florence, we went to this restaurant that was near our hotel, and I may or may not have had a spiritual experience. (I know dad will hate that I keep saying that . . . but get used to it, old man!) I had a gnocchi with parmesan, sage and butter. I die. It was soooooooo incredible. I also got some white beans with olive oil, and black truffle ice cream for dessert. It was so fantastic I can't even handle it.

Well, all in all, Florence is more incredible than I ever imagined it could be. I want to go back already. Actually, I want to go back with a husband, it was so romantic. I will post pictures sometime soon, I promise. Next stop? Venice!

G is for Gelato

Yes. This is happening. An entire blog post dedicated to my creamy friend, gelato. I have always liked it, but having it everyday since I have been here like it's laced with cocaine? This is serious. All drug references aside, this stuff is good. I can't explain why it is so much better than ice cream (which I also love, don't get jealous, ice cream. We are still very much in a serious relationship), but it just is. The first day, I had melone, which was like this slice of heaven. And the second day, it was banana and nocciola (hazelnut), which was so insanely good it made me crazy. Third day? Coconut and limone. The place we went wasn't quite as good, as I had heard from some of the other girls, so I went with flavors that there is simply no way I COULDN'T like it. Also, the guy working the register gave me a little wink and was flirtatious. Gelato and a confidence boost? Sold. Today, it was a mousse panna cotta, ginger and cinnamon, and a chocolate pepperoncini . . . glorious. Hallelujah. It was appropriate for a Sunday, it was truly a spiritual experience.

So, I know this won't be the trend for the entire trip, but I feel like I have something good going with Italy, so why stop now?

R is for Roma Romance

Whoa whoa whoa, take it easy. Nothing sketchy went down with any Italian men, nor will it (this trip at least . . . BYU lays down the LAW on dating here).I am simply wanting to express how much I loved Rome tonight.

First of all, we went to Pompeii today, and then briefly to Naples to go to the Archeological museum, which has lots of artifacts, mosaics, etc FROM Pompeii. It was a really cool experience, I was not expecting what I got. I took quite a few pictures, but none really do it justice (is this going to be a common theme? I swer I'm not trying to make excuses for my photography skills. They suck and I know it). The train rides were really fun too! On the way to pompeii I sat by Heather's (Professor Jensen) two daughters, Annie and Lucy. It was Lucy's eighth birthday today, too bad she couldn't get baptized in Rome. :) I ended up becoming with friends with Lucy and later Henry, who is maybe 5 or 6. George is warming up to me, but I think he will love me by the end of our trip. George is 3 by the way, and super awesome. All of these kids are so much fun, I wish they could hang out with Dallin, Claire and Spencer. Although, I just thought of the George/Spencer combo, and it would either be the funniest thing I have ever seen, or the most chaotic. The ride back was really fun, I'm starting to really enjoy each of the people I am traveling with, and I'm excited for the new friendships!

So back to Rome. We got back into town around 9pm, went back to our apartments, freshened up really quick, and then headed back out as a slightly smaller group. Rome was a having a Night at the Museum event of sorts (I am curious as to how often they do this), where anyone can get into the museums for free from 8pm to 2 am. So to start this off, Rome is straight up BEAUTIFUL and night. Add to that tons and tons of people EVERYWHERE out appreciating art . . . let's just say I was in heaven. We walked around, I just soaked up the whole experience. They city felt so alive, I didn't want to go home! There were crazy lines for every museum, but we (and especially me) wanted to go to a modern art exhibit that was just temporary. It was all art from about 1958-63, from Milan and Rome. Saw some Man Ray's, Duchamps' and a Louise Nevelson, which I loved and just knew I would. It was a nice break from all the more ancient stuff we have been looking at.

We ended up heading out a little before 1am, but I could stayed there all night, and honestly, it felt safer! There were more people out there than during the day it felt like! I was in love with the beauty and excitement of this city. I don't know if it will be my favorite, it is the first place I have been, but so far, it's amore.

J is for Jen in Rome

I am FINALLY here! I got in Thursday morning, and I literally could not grasp where I was at, what what going to happen, and for how long I get to be there. I managed to get myself to the apartments were are staying in, and on the train ride, I kept looking out the window and being unable to connect the fact that I was in Italy. Yeah, it was pretty, but it meant very little to me at the time. I think that flying sort of disconnects me from my understanding of location. If I were to take a train from Provo, then a boat, and then a car or train or something to Italy, I would recognize this more. But no, I get into one big long thing and get off of it somewhere new, with no way of knowing if they actually took me to the right place.

Well, it became very real for me once I stepped inside the Pantheon with my group. I have been looking at pictures of this for years and years, and I was not prepared for the experience I was about to have. I walked inside, and looked up, and started to cry (just a little, nothing too embarrasing). It was so much more than any picture could show. It was awe-inspiring and spiritual for me. I realized where I was, and the gravity of how much history I was about to encounter just took me aback.

That day we also visited the Trevi fountain, where I most definitely threw in a couple of coins and made some wishes. One came true as I had my first gelato of the trip (melone flavored . . . it was perfect).

Today (Friday) we had a crazy long day, but it was fantastic! We got to see the Colosseum (where I had another "Is this for real?" moment), the Roman Forum, many columns, Michelangelo's "Moses", and the Borghese Palace, which has some incredible pieces (the Bernini's were my favorite). I also took a mini nap on the side of some huge building on the grass, which we found out was not open to the public. The gate was open, what were we SUPPOSED to do, let that grass go untouched? Ok, it could hardly be called grass, but the area was pretty and we were done walking.

So Italy is amazing, I'm having the time of my life, I'm actually taking pictures (which you will just have to wait about 5 weeks for! But I promise I will fill in these posts!), I'm making friends, and I am excited for every single day!

E is for Europe (And Excited beyond all reason)

It is slightly surreal knowing that tomorrow at this time I will be on my way to Rome, beginning my study abroad adventure! I have been wanting to do this program for some time, and I can't believe that THAT time has actually come! I will be gone for 5 weeks, traveling to Italy, England and France. It is going to be extremely fun, but it will also be an academic trip. I have been studying art history for the last 4 years, and now I am able to go see so many of the works and sites that I have been staring at in books and writing papers on til the wee hours of the morning. There is work involved, yes, but it is also work for something I am passionate about. I could not be happier right now, or more anxious. I don't know what to expect, but I think that is making it all the more exciting!

I'm going to do my best to blog quite frequently, I promise! Don't judge me based on my previous blogging . . .it's a little pathetic. Some posts may be short ("G is for Gelato, endofstory"), some may actually be informative, and hopefully all will be entertaining. So, let the adventure begin! You will be hearing from me shortly!

M is for MAC, which is for Make-up Artistry Cosmetics

After 2 1/2 great years with Bare Escentuals, I finally took a leap, and landed 5 feet away at the MAC counter! While I loved (and still love) Bare Escentuals, I knew it was time for me to try something new and give myself a challenge! After 1 week of training (which deserves a blog spot all its own!) and 1 full week actually working, I can honestly say that I KNOW I made the right decision this time!

My complete devotion to fashion and beauty magazines is finally paying off, as MAC is a company that EXPECTS us to know what the trends are, and to represent them! Not that Bare Escentuals discouraged that, but they were definitely going for a different image.

Just to let everyone know, in case you're worried, I am well aware of what the "typical" MAC image is, and I WILL still stay true to myself. So, no, I won't be rocking hot pink hair and a massive tattoo on my chest anytime soon!

I'm loving my new job, even though it's not all that different from my previous one. I know that i have a lot to offer the company, and I am excited for all the opportunities that will come my way!

W is for Wonderful Women

Today is my Grandma Ruby's 90th birthday, and I feel it only appropriate to talk about all the of the women in my life who have been extremely influential. As I think about each woman, I realize that I have been VERY blessed to know so many!

Grandma Ruby is 90 today, and probably has more energy and initiative to accomplish goals than I do! She is one of the sweetest women in the world, and yet, she's got a sassy side too! She is a hard-worker and the best example of how we can all be missionaries our entire lives. I am so excited for her to come to Utah in a couple of weeks!

Grandma Lois is one of the funniest women that I know! While I mentioned Ruby's sassy-ness, I think Lois wins in this department. One of my favorite memories with her is when we were at the Sipes home for dinner, and we played dominoes afterward, and as I started to consistently win, she looked over at me and said, "I never did like you very much". That STILL makes me laugh to this day! Aside from being hilarious, she is a fabulous example to me of a true woman of faith. She is strong, caring, and all-around wonderful! I'm so grateful for my grandmas!

I definitely need to give a MAJOR shout-out to my sisters (real and in law). Sara, Scott's wife, gives me so much hope for my future. She stayed true to herself, got through BYU, and found a pretty awesome guy, so maybe I have a chance! She is intimidatingly intelligent, beautiful, a modern-day feminist(as am I!), and an incredible cook! She makes so much sense in our family, and I love her!

Erin is the newest addition to our family, and the living proof that I was right to be frustrated with Dave when he was in High School! I used to get so mad because I found his taste in girls shallow, and then he finally grew up and married someone who IS beautiful, but also smart, funny, caring, and wonderful! She has been so good to me, and such a great friend and mentor here in Utah! (And a side note, Erin's family has been SOOOOO good to me, and I love them! Erin's mom and sisters are for SURE among my favorite women! The guys are ok too. :) They have given me a family here in Utah that I have needed lately!).

My sister, Missi or Melissa (depending on which you prefer...I personally can't call her Melissa, it just feels weird), has guided me through my entire life! She is 8 years older than me, and has showed me how I ought to be living my life (although I'm a few years behind in the whole husband, pregnant department). She is beautiful, smart, hilarious, hard-working, loving, responsible, and pretty much everything I want to be someday! She has raised three of the cutest kids in the world who are fun, sweet, and smart. I have been SO lucky to have her in my life! I feel so blessed to have family members who are more than just that, they are my best friends!

Now, obviously, there are so many more women I love and admire, but if you're still reading this, you're probably waiting for me to get to my mom. So thank you to all my great girl friends out there, but my mom kinda wins.

Where do I start with my mom? The first thing I have to say about her is that she is my best friend and biggest fan who loves me so much, and that gets me through every single day, no matter what. That alone is really enough, and more than a lot of others can say. I have never questioned her love for me or anyone in my family. She would do literally anything to make me happy, and is one of the most selfless people I know. She trusts me and my decisions, and has never forced anything on me. She is beautiful, caring, Christ-like, quirky, fun, intelligent, spiritual, and pretty much everything a mother should be! She does so much for others without asking for recognition, and I admire that so much! I'm not sure how to ever repay her for everything she has done and all the clothes and make-up she has bought! :) Thank you for being my friend and example!

Well, there are so many more women who have influenced me and blessed my life, so thank you to all of you as well! Let's hope I learn a thing or two from each of these special ladies!

C is for Change

No, nothing has changed, just to warn all of you who were hoping for an exciting revelation about my life. As I have thought about how steady my life has become, I started to think about all those people who would LOVE the consistency that I have. Steady job, wonderful family, great friends, amazing school, etc. So many friends of mine tell me how scared they are of change, and how they wish they could just keep their lives steady and consistent.

Why is it that I don't have that fear? I CRAVE change. BIG change. Yes, I don't want to lose those steady parts of my life like family, friends, the gospel, etc, but change is EXCITING for me. New job opportunities are always enticing, and doing study abroad or internships are constantly tempting me. I get a little restless here in Provo as I look at internships in London with Sothebys, think about moving to New York, wanting to travel the world and see what is out there. Change doesn't feel negative to me. Maybe MY challenge is to learn to make my life's consistencies exciting...or just figure out how to make all those changes I crave a reality!

G is for Groomswoman

You've heard the phrase, "Always a bridesmaid, never a bride". While this may be true for some women, I feel like my life has been more along the lines of "Always a groomsmen, never a bride". Now, before I start, let me just say, this post will not be about complaining, but more about a realization that I have come to.

While growing up, I was extremely influenced by my older siblings. I got into good 80s music because of Scott, embraced my feminine side because of Missi, and thanks to Dave, I loved hockey and other sports. Despite my varied interests, however, I always seemed to get along with boys so much better than girls. While I had my close girl friends all throughout Elementary and Junior High, in the end, my closest friends are almost entirely male.

Maybe it was the lack of drama and back-stabbing, but I just related to these guys so well! Herein lies the problem: I became SO comfortable being friends with guys, that I don't really know how to DATE them. I can sit around and laugh when one of them farts, but sit me alone with one of them at a restaurant over candlelight? It's not good.

As much as I used to let this get to me, I realized maybe it isn't so bad. I have faith that someday I'll be able to be more than 'just friends' with a man. I have actually been so LUCKY to be friends with so many awesome guys, and they have taught me a lot of things about their "species" that I am sure I will find useful in my marriage. And, when all these guys start getting married, I think I will actually look pretty good in a tux. ;)

D is for Difficult Decisions

It has been too long since I have posted anything, and with good reason: nothing has changed in my life. Until now, that is. It seems that my blog has become an outlet for me to share my ever-changing job situations. Well, here comes another one.

Just for a little information on my current job, I work for Bare Escentuals inside of Nordstrom. I do make-up on women, but I also have sales goals to meet. I am paid by BE, NOT Nordstrom. Therefore, I don't make commission like every other Nordstrom employee, and I also receive no discount on anything but Bare Escentuals product. The commission situation really didn't bother me when I was hired, but that slowly started to change. Nordstrom is constantly understaffed in the cosmetics department, and so everyone has to work outside of their own make-up lines to help customers. Other employees, however, have a some incentive since they will still receive a commission for anything they sell. My team? Not so lucky. We are the only counter other than MAC that is ALWAYS staffed, open to close, and thus we end up doing a lot of work for other lines...with no reward. This has really frustrated me lately, as I feel a bit like free labor for Nordstrom.

Well, I heard about a full-time opening at the MAC counter. I was intrigued because I know how respected those employees are and that they make more hourly PLUS commission. I decided that I would talk to the manager of MAC and of Nordstrom cosmetics to let them know I was interested. Both were eager to have me apply, and that was really encouraging!

On the flip-side, I was terrified to tell MY manager that I was even CONSIDERING to leave BE. I felt that she should know, however, so that it wouldn't seem like I was sneaking around behind her back interviewing other places. Telling her was extremely difficult, and she didn't take it very well.

The past couple of days, I have been so conflicted, trying to decide what to do. I even made a list of pros and cons. In the end, I know what I should be doing right now. And even though everything else I have said might make you think otherwise, I have decided to stay with Bare Escentuals. I feel like the frustrations I have now would be nothing compared to the others that would come from working for MAC. I respect them a lot, but it is just not for me right now. So, for once, one of my "Job Blogs" doesn't involve change!

S is for Sunday. Whew!

The Gospel is true....and very exhausting. Yesterday I had one of those nonstop, meeting after meeting, no time to eat Sundays. As the daughter of a bishop/Stake Presidency kind of dad, I have always known that many people in the church have VERY long days. So, Dad and everyone else that has spent hours and hours with church activities... I know how you feel.

11:30- Relief Society Presidency meeting (Thank goodness I started this late...we all know I am not a morning person...)

12:15-3:15- Sacrament, Sunday School, Relief Society (Nothing out of the ordinary here!)

3:15-3:45- socializing with some new sisters in my Relief Society (While this may sound like a break, taking mental notes on names, hometowns, majors, etc can be exhausting!)

4-5- My home teachers came and taught us/talked with us. (These two guys are so great, we could have talked for so much longer)

5-6:30- I went and did MY visiting teaching, to two girls (Last Sunday of the month! Whoo hoo!)

6:30-6:45- Super fast meal (only real one of the day!)

6:45-7- walking in the slush/rain/snow/cold in high heels to a Stake Leadership Training Meeting (While this was not an activity or anything, I just want you to pity me :).)

7-8:30-Stake Leadership Training Meeting (First everyone together, and then Relief Society Presidencies on their own)

8:30-8:45- Stinking weather

8:45-9- Interviewing two people to spotlight at ward prayer (This time I had paper and a pen to help me remember names, dates, majors, interests, etc.)

9-9:30- Ward Prayer (So fun...so cold)

9:30-10:30- Linger Longer, sweets and socializing (While this is not a REQUIRED activity...it is if one wants friends in the ward)

10:30-12- Nice long conversation with a friend. (SOMETIMES I am a good listener)

I came home at midnight, read my scriptures(That was for the parents...just so they know! haha), washed my face, brushed my teeth, and that was it. The end.

Even though I make it sound so tiring and arduous, it was a great day! I was spiritually fed, taught by many, able to teach myself, talked with awesome people, and felt like I did not waste a day!

A is for "And the Oscar goes to..."

Every year in my ward, the FHE groups get together and make 10 minute long videos about anything they choose, and then the whole ward gets together and watches them. It is a really fun tradition, and the "Oscars" have become a pretty big deal. Well, this year, my group made a funny 1950s educational video about how to survive a zombie uprising. It was really funny, thanks to some pretty tech/movie/editing savvy guys in the group. I even helped out with the zombie make-up, which was kind of refreshing after all the "natural" looks I do everyday! This past Thursday, our whole ward went to the SWKT(Kimball Tower) and watched the movies is a huge theater. It was so fun, plus, formal wear was encouraged, so it felt like prom again! My roommates and I had fun getting ready together (I even did about 5 girls' eye make-up in about an hour, PLUS myself! Whew!), and we looked great! Here are some pictures from the after-party. If you have a facebook account, my groups video is on my profile, so check it out!

Oh, and our group won! The bishopric gave an award to each group, and then the ward voted on the best overall! So, we got the People's Choice Oscar, which is really the best!

M is for Me, Yo, Je, Moi, I

After seeing the Waldron family become
dancing elves, I thought I would give it a try
too. Thing is...I don't have a husband...or three kids.
But I sure did want to fill those five spaces!
So enjoy the many faces of Jenbug!

P is for Pictures

Since most of you don't get on facebook often, I thought you might want to see some pictures of me! (WARNING: Most of these photos contain awkward/unflattering facial expressions, odd hair and skin color, and strange clothing.)

Me making a strange face with a cool faux hawk!

My roommate Nicole, me, roommate Courtney and friend Alisa going out to prank some guys!
Claire wanted me to show her the pictures of when I was "blue" all the time, so here they are!

C is for Camilla and Carmindy

So I think I could give Carmindy a run for her money. To anyone who doesn't know who Carmindy is, just tune in to TLC's "What Not To Wear" (or ask my dad). Most of my family really enjoys this show, where participants hand over their wardrobe to Stacy and Clinton, who then show them what they SHOULD wear, along with $5000 to get a new wardrobe. After the shopping, the participants then get their hair cut/styled/colored by Nick Arrojo, and then their make-up done by Carmindy. I always love seeing the transformations! The women look better, but more importantly, they feel better and have more confidence.

That is the part of my job that I love: telling women they are beautiful and meaning it, and helping them gain self-confidence. It is my goal to simply enhance the beauty they have and make them feel better, without changing them completely.

Well, today I had a woman come in who wanted to try out Bare Escentuals. She sat down and we started to talk as I did her make-up. I felt like I knew her from somewhere, but could never figure out from where while we talked. She loved everything and bought some things, and went on her way. Well, about an hour later, it hit me! She was on "What Not to Wear"!!! It all came back to me: the girl from Salt Lake with really long hair, torn-up clothes, and absolutely no idea how beautiful she was! I remember being so annoyed with her, because she was so stunning, and yet she did not consider herself beautiful. She still seemed a little self-conscious today. She seems to be keeping up well with dressing well, but when I was doing her make-up and told her how great her skin was, she kind of looked to the side and made some comment about that being untrue. I said "No, really! You have fantastic skin!", and she just truly didn't believe it. But when I was done with her, she looked in the mirror and said she thought she actually looked great! Take THAT Carmindy!

R is for Resume

I had a pretty good day today. All in all, I can't complain. Part of the reason this day was good was because I started to see how AWESOME I am. :) (The smiley face represents the fact that I am totally kidding!) Then I started to wonder how someone like me can be oh-so-single. So instead of dwelling on that thought (which would surely lead to self-criticism and some mild form of depression), I thought I would create a resume of sorts, for any future male companions. (Feel free to add to my list...it can only make me feel better!! Hahaha!)

-Minimal amounts of drama/typical "girl" behavior (Really, this should be enough)
-Common sense
-Humble (I mean...other than this)
-Enjoy the arts: concerts, plays, musicals, museums, etc
-Enjoy sports: Hockey, baseball, basketball, etc (Again, this should do it)
-Wicked awesome dancer (I won't lie: I'm amazing)
-Independent (Read: NOT NEEDY)
-not-too-shabby in the looks department
-Sense of reality (see "not-too-shabby" above)
-Good taste in music, movies, books (ie NOT Pussycat Dolls, She's the Man, or Twilight)
-Spiritual (Hello! Relief Society Presidency!) ;)
-Learning to be uninhibited, but haven't gone crazy(aka Balanced)

Well, that'll do it. I feel much better now.

F is for FINALLY!

It has been so long since my last post, one might think this will be full of new, fun, exciting news! So, let me apologize in advance: I am boring. My life is pretty "steady", as Dad puts it! haha! So here is what is "going on" with me right now!I am still working at Nordstrom, and I really love it! I feel like I am really good at what I do, and therefore each day at work is really enjoyable! (Finally!) I am not in school right now, but I will be in just over a week. I am taking all art history and religion courses, and NO math or science! (Finally!) Dave is engaged to the perfect woman! Erin is kind, spiritual, funny, gorgeous, and totally appreciates everything Dave has to offer! (Finally!) I am not dating anyone right now, and honestly, not really dating at all. But for once, that doesn't make me feel bad about myself! (Finally!) And last, this may seem weird, but my skin looks so good! haha! I have struggled for YEARS with my problematic skin (which Mom knows better than anyone!), and recently I have felt so confident and pretty! (FINALLY!!!!) A couple weeks ago, I was talking to a customer about the BareMinerals skincare line(which is what has helped me so much) and the customer looked at me and asked if I was using it. I felt awful, because I knew if I said yes, she wouldn't believe that it was good, because MY skin isn't great. But I said yes, because it was the truth, and she said, "well, your skin looks beautiful!" and she bought the whole line! I wanted to cry! It was maybe the first time anyone has ever said that to me. (Finally!)

So, even though my life is boring, steady, consistent, etc, it has been full of great things and lots of Finally's!

N is for Newer Job, Nordstrom, and Nails

I swear I don't GENERALLY switch jobs so much! But, here I am,a month and a half after I got a new job at Down East Basics telling you all I am leaving. I wasn't planning on leaving, but things just worked out differently than I planned (Which I should probably be used to at this point!)

It is funny how it all happened(well, maybe not comical, but, just interesting). While I was working at Miche Bag, I became friends with the girls who worked next to me at another kiosk. Well, one of them, Tania, started working at Nordstrom during the Holidays, and was recently promoted to manager at the Bare Escentuals counter. She would always walk by me while I was at Down East and tell me I should come work for her. it always sounded fun, but I never took it seriously, since I had JUST started at Down East. Well, last week, Tania's former manager approached me at work, and asked if she could interview me, since Tania had told her all about me (how sneaky!). So I agreed, and met with her (Rachel) the next day. Well, the interview was fantastic, probably the best I have ever had, and Rachel offered me the assistant manager job right there! (Actually, I am called the Lead Beauty Ambassador, thank you very much!) They told me they would call me and let me know what they could offer me as far as pay goes. (I told my self it would have to be at least 2 dollars more per hour than I was making at Down East for it to be worth my while to leave!) Well, they offered me 5 dollars more than I was making at Down East, and who am I to turn THAT down?

So, goodbye Down East Basics, hello Nordstrom and Bare Escentuals! I am really excited, because I have always loved make-up, and now I get paid (Well!) to do it for other women! So once again, I am moving on to bigger and better things!

Oh and the nails part of the title has nothing to do with my new job! I just have a weird obsession lately with strange nail polish colors. Right now, navy blue, yellow, and gray are my favorites! (And in case you are wondering, mine are currently yellow! Love it!)

N is for New Job

Sometimes you have got to look out for number 1 (which, in this case, is me!).

I have been working at the Miche Bag kiosk in the University Mall since October 2007, and it has been a great job for me! It is retail (which I seem to do well in), the hours are good for a college student, the pay is (or was) relatively good, and the environment is fun and not too stressful.

Once everyone's pay was cut back to....well, let's just say "not a whole lot" I knew I needed to look for something else. I felt bad since I love the company (started in part by my cousin Annette) and my manager (my cousin, Rebecca) and thus felt like I was abandoning them. But in the end, I needed something that would pay better and give me more opportunities to progress. (Plus, the new owner of out kiosk, Janet, is a little strange, and she was the one making the pay-cuts, so I don't feel too bad about leaving her behind....man I hope she never finds this blog! :) ).

Well, my new job is...kind of like my old one! :) I am still going to be working at the University Mall...and at a kiosk....but I am going to be the manager! Woo-hoo! I am the new manager at the Down East Basics kiosk (It sells camis and t-shirts similar to Shade, but they are less expensive and I like them a lot more!). I am really excited to get going! The pay is really good, I get paid vacation, I'll be really busy(which at a kiosk is soooo nice) and most importantly...people work under me! :) ha ha

So yet another chapter in my retail book is over, and I am starting a new one!
