P is for Pictures

Since most of you don't get on facebook often, I thought you might want to see some pictures of me! (WARNING: Most of these photos contain awkward/unflattering facial expressions, odd hair and skin color, and strange clothing.)

C is for Camilla and Carmindy

So I think I could give Carmindy a run for her money. To anyone who doesn't know who Carmindy is, just tune in to TLC's "What Not To Wear" (or ask my dad). Most of my family really enjoys this show, where participants hand over their wardrobe to Stacy and Clinton, who then show them what they SHOULD wear, along with $5000 to get a new wardrobe. After the shopping, the participants then get their hair cut/styled/colored by Nick Arrojo, and then their make-up done by Carmindy. I always love seeing the transformations! The women look better, but more importantly, they feel better and have more confidence.

That is the part of my job that I love: telling women they are beautiful and meaning it, and helping them gain self-confidence. It is my goal to simply enhance the beauty they have and make them feel better, without changing them completely.

Well, today I had a woman come in who wanted to try out Bare Escentuals. She sat down and we started to talk as I did her make-up. I felt like I knew her from somewhere, but could never figure out from where while we talked. She loved everything and bought some things, and went on her way. Well, about an hour later, it hit me! She was on "What Not to Wear"!!! It all came back to me: the girl from Salt Lake with really long hair, torn-up clothes, and absolutely no idea how beautiful she was! I remember being so annoyed with her, because she was so stunning, and yet she did not consider herself beautiful. She still seemed a little self-conscious today. She seems to be keeping up well with dressing well, but when I was doing her make-up and told her how great her skin was, she kind of looked to the side and made some comment about that being untrue. I said "No, really! You have fantastic skin!", and she just truly didn't believe it. But when I was done with her, she looked in the mirror and said she thought she actually looked great! Take THAT Carmindy!

R is for Resume

I had a pretty good day today. All in all, I can't complain. Part of the reason this day was good was because I started to see how AWESOME I am. :) (The smiley face represents the fact that I am totally kidding!) Then I started to wonder how someone like me can be oh-so-single. So instead of dwelling on that thought (which would surely lead to self-criticism and some mild form of depression), I thought I would create a resume of sorts, for any future male companions. (Feel free to add to my list...it can only make me feel better!! Hahaha!)

-Minimal amounts of drama/typical "girl" behavior (Really, this should be enough)
-Common sense
-Humble (I mean...other than this)
-Enjoy the arts: concerts, plays, musicals, museums, etc
-Enjoy sports: Hockey, baseball, basketball, etc (Again, this should do it)
-Wicked awesome dancer (I won't lie: I'm amazing)
-Independent (Read: NOT NEEDY)
-not-too-shabby in the looks department
-Sense of reality (see "not-too-shabby" above)
-Good taste in music,movies,books (ie NOT Pussycat Dolls, She's the Man, or Twilight)
-Spiritual (Hello! Relief Society Presidency!) ;)
-Learning to be uninhibited, but haven't gone crazy(aka Balanced)

Well, that'll do it. I feel much better now.

F is for FINALLY!

It has been so long since my last post, one might think this will be full of new, fun, exciting news! So, let me apologize in advance: I am boring. My life is pretty "steady", as Dad puts it! haha! So here is what is "going on" with me right now!I am still working at Nordstrom, and I really love it! I feel like I am really good at what I do, and therefore each day at work is really enjoyable! (Finally!) I am not in school right now, but I will be in just over a week. I am taking all art history and religion courses, and NO math or science! (Finally!) Dave is engaged to the perfect woman! Erin is kind, spiritual, funny, gorgeous, and totally appreciates everything Dave has to offer! (Finally!) I am not dating anyone right now, and honestly, not really dating at all. But for once, that doesn't make me feel bad about myself! (Finally!) And last, this may seem weird, but my skin looks so good! haha! I have struggled for YEARS with my problematic skin (which Mom knows better than anyone!), and recently I have felt so confident and pretty! (FINALLY!!!!) A couple weeks ago, I was talking to a customer about the BareMinerals skincare line(which is what has helped me so much) and the customer looked at me and asked if I was using it. I felt awful, because I knew if I said yes, she wouldn't believe that it was good, because MY skin isn't great. But I said yes, because it was the truth, and she said, "well, your skin looks beautiful!" and she bought the whole line! I wanted to cry! It was maybe the first time anyone has ever said that to me. (Finally!)

So, even though my life is boring, steady, consistent, etc, it has been full of great things and lots of Finally's!

N is for Newer Job, Nordstrom, and Nails

I swear I don't GENERALLY switch jobs so much! But, here I am,a month and a half after I got a new job at Down East Basics telling you all I am leaving. I wasn't planning on leaving, but things just worked out differently than I planned (Which I should probably be used to at this point!)

It is funny how it all happened(well, maybe not comical, but, just interesting). While I was working at Miche Bag, I became friends with the girls who worked next to me at another kiosk. Well, one of them, Tania, started working at Nordstrom during the Holidays, and was recently promoted to manager at the Bare Escentuals counter. She would always walk by me while I was at Down East and tell me I should come work for her. it always sounded fun, but I never took it seriously, since I had JUST started at Down East. Well, last week, Tania's former manager approached me at work, and asked if she could interview me, since Tania had told her all about me (how sneaky!). So I agreed, and met with her (Rachel) the next day. Well, the interview was fantastic, probably the best I have ever had, and Rachel offered me the assistant manager job right there! (Actually, I am called the Lead Beauty Ambassador, thank you very much!) They told me they would call me and let me know what they could offer me as far as pay goes. (I told my self it would have to be at least 2 dollars more per hour than I was making at Down East for it to be worth my while to leave!) Well, they offered me 5 dollars more than I was making at Down East, and who am I to turn THAT down?

So, goodbye Down East Basics, hello Nordstrom and Bare Escentuals! I am really excited, because I have always loved make-up, and now I get paid (Well!) to do it for other women! So once again, I am moving on to bigger and better things!

Oh and the nails part of the title has nothing to do with my new job! I just have a weird obsession lately with strange nail polish colors. Right now, navy blue, yellow, and gray are my favorites! (And in case you are wondering, mine are currently yellow! Love it!)

N is for New Job

Sometimes you have got to look out for number 1 (which, in this case, is me!).

I have been working at the Miche Bag kiosk in the University Mall since October 2007, and it has been a great job for me! It is retail (which I seem to do well in), the hours are good for a college student, the pay is (or was) relatively good, and the environment is fun and not too stressful.

Once everyone's pay was cut back to....well, let's just say "not a whole lot" I knew I needed to look for something else. I felt bad since I love the company (started in part by my cousin Annette) and my manager (my cousin, Rebecca) and thus felt like I was abandoning them. But in the end, I needed something that would pay better and give me more opportunities to progress. (Plus, the new owner of out kiosk, Janet, is a little strange, and she was the one making the pay-cuts, so I don't feel too bad about leaving her behind....man I hope she never finds this blog! :) ).

Well, my new job is...kind of like my old one! :) I am still going to be working at the University Mall...and at a kiosk....but I am going to be the manager! Woo-hoo! I am the new manager at the Down East Basics kiosk (It sells camis and t-shirts similar to Shade, but they are less expensive and I like them a lot more!). I am really excited to get going! The pay is really good, I get paid vacation, I'll be really busy(which at a kiosk is soooo nice) and most importantly...people work under me! :) ha ha

So yet another chapter in my retail book is over, and I am starting a new one!
